About this event

What's your morning ritual like?

Following a sold-out edition during Oerol Festival in 2023, artist and pianist Tomoko Mukaiyama returns this coming summer to Amsterdam with a series of fourteen concert-breakfast rituals.
This time hosted by Mediamatic, located within walking distance of Centraal Station where every minute and even second counts, a new approach to spending time is being performed.

Through a one-hour experience, EAT presents a seven-course piano composition paired with flavors that tell unique stories about time and place, such as aged miso produced on the island of Terschelling and plums from a 200-year-old tree. Energizing compositions by Henk van der Meulen and a Japanese vegan breakfast served on handmade bowls by ceramic artist Akihiro Nikaido bring what’s needed to begin days in a more attentive way.

Artist and pianist Tomoko Mukaiyama explains that during EAT, we sow the seeds, so that we can harvest the rewards in the hours that follow. She is interested in how people in Amsterdam spend their mornings. As many of us are stuck in a cycle of repetitive, easy meals and mind-numbing screen time, Mukaiyama feels the urge to disrupt this.

"Because the way I spend my morning strongly impacts my entire day, I created EAT. This performance is designed so that flavors engage in a dialogue with sounds, making you hyper-aware. After attending, you'll find a new focus, allowing you to appreciate the subtle details that often go unnoticed."

Tickets are now available from June 6th to 10th and 12th to 16th at 8:30 am. Prefer sleeping in? A second session is offered at 11:00 am only on Saturdays and Sundays.
